Disciplined taxpayers have a chance to win prizes such as cars, gold, and Umrah packages

The North Sumatra Regional Tax Authority (Bapenda Sumut) is taking innovative steps to improve tax compliance.

Through the 2026 Tax Celebration Program, Bapenda is preparing a range of attractive prizes for those who pay their taxes diligently.

Under this program, every taxpayer who pays their motor vehicle tax (PKB) on time has a chance to win a prize.

The prizes offered are diverse and range from cars, Umrah packages, gold, motorcycles, electronic devices, and other attractive prizes.

Encouraging timely tax payments

“This way, our people are motivated to pay their taxes on time and to be more diligent in their tax payments. Those who pay conscientiously and punctually can participate in the lottery we organize,” said Ardan Noor, head of the North Sumatra Regional Tax Administration (Bapenda), during a press conference in the Dekranasda lobby of the Office of the Governor of North Sumatra, Jalan Diponegoro No. 30, Medan, on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

In addition to the lottery, the North Sumatra Bapenda also provides basic food assistance to taxpayers who consistently meet their obligations.

This program is expected to increase public awareness of voluntary tax payments.

“This is intended to encourage voluntary compliance, not forced compliance, as we currently see that coercion has no significant effect. We are offering incentives in the form of basic food parcels in collaboration with other institutions, and many will be receptive to this,” says Ardan Noor.

Broadening the Tax Base in North Sumatra

According to Ardan, this step is expected to broaden the tax base in North Sumatra. The hope is that people who previously defaulted on their tax obligations will be encouraged to do so.

“This will expand our tax base, increase the number of people who comply with the rules and pay their taxes diligently, while, of course, we continue to educate our citizens,” says Ardan Noor. ***obs
