Digital Infrastructure Development Must Be in Line with Good Internet Education and Literacy

Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi), Meutya Hafid revealed that the digital transformation that is being carried out will not occur without an internet access network.

The statement was made when Menkomdigi greeted students of SD Inpres 9 West Halmahera directly via an internet connection from the Bakti Aksi program.

The presence of this digital connectivity marks the expansion of the construction of BTS Universal Service Obligation (USO) in the 3T region, including Maluku, North Maluku, and East Nusa Tenggara.

Digital Public Services

“Digital transformation is impossible without good connectivity. President Prabowo Subianto in his grand vision also emphasized that public services will be carried out digitally. And therefore, we need to prepare right down to the remote areas and border posts to be able to connect,” said Meutya, June 12, 2025.

Meutya said that the development of digital infrastructure must go hand in hand with education and literacy on wise internet use, so that people can utilize technology optimally and avoid negative impacts.

Good Internet Utilization

“Many people, when the infrastructure goes down, do not know how to utilize the internet properly, so they are then exposed to negative content. So I hope that they will use the internet properly,” he explained.

The Minister of Communication and Digital also highlighted Indonesia’s geographical challenges as a very large archipelagic country with more than 17 thousand islands and a large population.

Digital Development Takes Time and Effort

Meutya emphasized that digital development requires consistent time and effort. “So it’s not just installing (digital infrastructure) but also sustainable connections, and of course with good speed,” he said.

In the video conference, Meutya Hafid greeted and had a direct dialogue with students and educators in the three provinces. The Principal of SD Inpres 9 West Halmahera Nurul expressed her gratitude for the great benefits of the presence of the Bakti Aksi internet service in the school environment.

“Thank you very much, Ma’am, for giving us the opportunity to appear together here. These are the impressive elementary school children in West Halmahera who are so many with their numbers today and at the same time with BAKTI AKSI today at our school, it’s extraordinary,” she said.

Provision of Digital Infrastructure

According to her, the school is greatly helped by the presence of the digital infrastructure provision program in the 3T region. Nurul explained that internet access services have been utilized for educational activities in the school environment.

“It helps when, for example, teachers participate in webinars. The webinar during school hours means we can access the internet online, so we can follow it online, then the children can also be assessed during class and it is carried out well,” she said.

The government through the BTS USO program continues to commit to expanding internet access to remote areas of the archipelago in order to encourage economic equality, improve the quality of education, and transform digital-based public services. ***
