After decades of damage, strategic roads in Labuhanbatu are finally being widened by Governor Bobby Nasution
The Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, continues to demonstrate his commitment to the implementation of the Integrated Infrastructure (INSTANSI) Best Results Fast Program (PHTC). An example of this is the ongoing repair of roads in the Labuhanbatu district that have been damaged for decades.
The repairs are taking place in Labuhanbatu on two road sections: Aek Nabara–Negeri Lama and Negeri Lama–Tanjung Elang, with a total length of 10 kilometers. Various sections of these roads have long been severely damaged due to a lack of maintenance.

Syahrizal, Head of the Roads and Bridges Department of the Rantauprapat Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) of the North Sumatra Provincial Roads and Construction Agency, stated that the work is being carried out in two phases. The first package comprises the 3-kilometer stretch from Aek Nabara to Negeri Lama, divided into five segments, while the second package comprises the 7-kilometer stretch from Negeri Lama to Tanjung Elang, divided into three segments.
“The first package, the 3-kilometer stretch from Aek Nabara to Negeri Lama, is divided into five segments, and the second package, the 7-kilometer stretch from Negeri Lama to Tanjung Elang, is divided into three segments. Construction of these sections must be completed by the end of this year,” said Syahrizal.
In addition to repairing the road, the provincial government of North Sumatra is also improving the quality of the infrastructure by widening the road from the original 5 meters to 6 meters. Furthermore, reinforced concrete verges, each 70 centimeters wide, are being constructed on the left and right sides to strengthen the road structure.
“The current road width is 5 meters, and we are widening it to 6 meters. Additionally, we are adding concrete verges, each 70 cm wide, to make the road sturdier,” Syahrizal added.

Syahrizal also apologized to the public and road users for any inconvenience caused during the works. He urged the public to be careful while traveling on the road.
“We, on behalf of the province of North Sumatra, apologize to the public and road users for the amount of ash that may have blown up during the works, and we call upon road users to be careful while traveling,” he said.
The roadworks were enthusiastically received by the local population. One of them, Muslim Manik, who travels the road daily, hopes that the entire road from Tanjung Elang to Aek Nabara can be fully repaired.
“We hope there will be no more damaged roads, because this road is very important. There will be no more stories about sick people dying on the road because they could not get to the hospital fast enough. The prices of our agricultural products will not drop due to traffic jams. If everything runs smoothly again, that will certainly have a significant impact on the community’s economy,” said Muslim.

Salomo Sihite, a resident of Aek Nabara who works as a motorcycle mechanic, shared this opinion. He admitted to regularly seeing accidents happen as a result of the damaged road.
