Kahiyang Ayu encourages women to undergo regular health checks

Kahiyang Ayu, head of the North Sumatra Province Family Strengthening and Welfare Team (TP PKK), encouraged women to undergo regular health checks, particularly a reproductive health check, as a way to detect various diseases early.

She made this appeal during a visual inspection using acetic acid (VIA) in Lahomi District, in the West Nias region.

“Cervical cancer is one of the greatest threats to women’s health. However, it can be prevented and effectively treated if detected early,” said Kahiyang Ayu.

According to Kahiyang, the monitoring activity is a concrete step towards the early detection of cervical cancer and strengthening the development of PKK members, from the village to the district level. Through on-site inspections, the TP PKK North Sumatra aims to ensure optimal service coverage, targeted education, and the readiness of local health institutions to conduct check-ups for women of reproductive age.

On that occasion, Kahiyang Ayu also expressed her appreciation for the Lahomi District Family Welfare Movement (TP PKK) for their success in educating the community and encouraging expectant women to take the IVA test. Screening coverage in the area has now reached 58 percent.

However, she warned that this achievement should not make PKK members complacent. Education efforts must be continuously intensified to raise women’s awareness regarding reproductive health.

“It is to be hoped that PKK members continue to reach out to the community and encourage women to maintain and care for their reproductive health, undergo regular health check-ups, and adopt a clean and healthy lifestyle in their daily lives,” she added. Also present at the event were the Regent of West Nias, Eliyunus Waruwu, the Chairman of the West Nias TP PKK, Evita Eliyunus Waruwu, and the heads of the regional departments (OPD) within the Government of West Nias. ***REL
