Go Skateboarding Day 2026 in Medan: Bobby Nasution advocates for more events and skateparks in North Sumatra
The Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, hopes that more events and skateparks will be built in North Sumatra to support the development of skateboarding. He made this statement during Go Skateboarding Day (GSD) North Sumatra 2026 at Merdeka Square in Medan on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
According to Bobby Nasution, sufficient events and facilities are crucial for the development of skateboarding in the region. Therefore, he encouraged the districts/cities to create skate spots and increase the number of competitions.

“Many regions/cities have asked for skateparks, and we will be the biggest. Two things are most important: increase the number of events, because without events, skaters cannot practice. Hopefully, more locations will emerge in various regions/cities, and we as a province can develop these further,” said Bobby Nasution.
One of the iconic skateparks in North Sumatra today is the Skate Plaza at Merdeka Square in Medan. This facility was built during Bobby Nasution’s mayoralty of Medan, coinciding with the revitalization of Merdeka Square and the construction of a skate plaza in Kebun Bunga.
The public’s enthusiasm for this sport was clearly visible during GSD North Sumatra 2026, which was attended by hundreds of skaters from various regions. Many children also participated in the annual event.
Bobby believes that skateboarding development must begin at a young age, as it requires long and continuous training. “This is not a sport you master just like that; it requires extensive training. So I really hope they have a good place from a young age. Especially because skateboarding was a sport at the recent National Games (PON), we must continue to develop it,” he said.
Irfan, a skater from Medan, expressed his joy regarding the development of skateboarding facilities in North Sumatra. He believes that the presence of multiple skateparks not only improves skaters’ skills but also strengthens bonds within the community.
“My friends and I are very happy. In Medan there is the Flower Garden, here (Merdeka Square), at the Deliserdang Stadium, and in Menteng there are many. Mr. Bobby’s support for skaters is extraordinary, and hopefully something great will come of it,” said Irfan.
Also present at the event were the head of the North Sumatra Youth and Sports Agency, Mahfullah Pratama Daulay; the head of the North Sumatra Communication and Information Agency, Erwin Hotmasah Harahap; the head of the North Sumatran Transport Agency, Yuda P. Setiawan; heads of relevant regional government agencies (OPDs), the North Sumatran Indonesian Skateboard Commission (KIS), and hundreds of skaters from various districts/cities in North Sumatra. ***rel
