Registering a new Telkomsel number is now easier thanks to biometrics
Telkomsel has officially implemented biometric facial recognition for the registration of new mobile numbers.
All GraPARI (Indonesian National Association for Mobile Banking) branches in Sumatra can now process biometric registrations. This implementation was directly reviewed by the Director-General of Digital Ecosystems at the Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs, Dr. Edwin Hidayat Abdullah, during a visit to GraPARI Graha Merah Putih Medan on Friday, February 20, 2026.
The implementation of biometric registration is part of Telkomsel’s support for the “Comfortable Smile with Biometrics” (SEMANTIK) program of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi), based on Ministerial Decree No. 7 of 2026.
Protecting Customers from Cybercrime
Biometric facial recognition strengthens the authenticity of customer data and protects customers and the public from cybercrime, such as fraud and phishing.
Saki H. Bramono, Vice President of Consumer Business Area Sumatra Telkomsel, stated that Telkomsel consistently supports government programs as a demonstration of its commitment to genuine service, including biometric registration at all GraPARI branches in Sumatra.
Registration using biometric data can be done through GraPARI branches or independently. Customers can visit a GraPARI branch with their ID card, where a representative will assist them with the registration.
For independent registration, the website tsel.id/registrasibiometrik is an option.
Secure biometric data for Telkomsel customers
Telkomsel customers’ biometric data is guaranteed secure and is used exclusively for identity verification in accordance with applicable information security standards. The technology used also complies with the principles for preventing fraud and other cybercrime, as required by regulators.
“With the implementation of biometric registration, Telkomsel customers can experience a short, clear, and simple registration process,” says Saki. ***obs
