Official Opening of Pinangsori–Pekanbaru Route: Son-in-law of the 7th President Urges Low Airfares
North Sumatra Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution has inaugurated a new flight route from Dr. FL Tobing Airport (Pinangsori) to Pekanbaru.
The son-in-law of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia hopes that ticket prices on this new route will be affordable for a wide audience.
Low ticket prices for the Pinangsori–Pekanbaru flight
The Pinangsori–Pekanbaru flight route is considered strategic because it is a direct, non-stop flight. However, Bobby Nasution requested that ticket prices not be too high for the public.
“If possible, don’t make the tickets too expensive, sir. Otherwise, it will look like the route is being opened half-heartedly,” Bobby Nasution told Captain Fitzgerald Julian Rachman, Production Director of Wings Air, during the inauguration ceremony at FL Tobing Airport in Pinangsori, Central Tapanuli Regency, on Friday, January 23, 2026.
According to Bobby Nasution, this flight will benefit both regions. In addition to improving connectivity, this route is also crucial, especially during emergencies such as the recent floods and landslides in Sumatra.
Pinangsori–Pekanbaru Flight Schedule
The Pinangsori–Pekanbaru route is available Mondays and Fridays from 12:05 to 13:30 WIB (Western Indonesia Time). The Pekanbaru–Pinangsori route is operated from 10:25 to 11:40 WIB. Wings Air also plans to open a new route from Pinangsori to Padang and vice versa.
“During the disaster here, land access to Central Tapanuli, Sibolga, and South Tapanuli was cut off. We were all panicking. Initially, there was only access from Medan, but now air access from Pekanbaru has improved. This is a good sign. There is more access here, and I’ve heard that a Pinangsori-Padang route will be launched soon. That’s even better,” said Bobby.
Wings Air’s Commitment to Interregional Air Connections
Wings Air’s Production Director, Captain Julian Rachman, stated that this route offers significant benefits to the community, particularly for the economy, distribution, and tourism.
He said the opening of this route demonstrates Wings Air’s commitment to providing interregional air connections that previously did not exist.
“The Medan-Sibolga connection is exceptional and has received tremendous support from all stakeholders. Sixteen years ago, I first sat in the cockpit on this route (Medan-Sibolga), and since then, the route has grown and the benefits are tangible for our community,” Fitzgerald said. ***obs
