7 houses damaged and trees uprooted by rain and strong winds in Binjai
Heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds, hit Binjai City on Friday afternoon (27/2/2026), causing a number of trees to fall in several areas.
This incident disrupted the activities of residents and caused traffic jams at several points.
Several trees reportedly collapsed and covered the road.
This condition caused traffic congestion before officers finally took action in the field.
Rudi Iskandar Baros, head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Binjai city government, said his party immediately deployed personnel as soon as they received reports from the public.
Officers conducted the evacuation by cutting fallen logs and branches and clearing them from the road so vehicle flow could return to normal.
“As soon as the report came in, the team immediately moved to the site. We focused on opening access to the tree-covered road to avoid prolonged traffic jams and ensure there were no casualties,” he said.
In addition to evacuating fallen trees, BPBD also collects data on the impact of damage.
According to reports, the homes of at least seven residents were damaged by strong winds.
Rudi called on the public to remain alert to the possibility of extreme weather that could still occur.
“We urge residents to exercise caution when carrying out outdoor activities, especially during heavy rains and strong winds. If any emergency arises, please report it to the police immediately so that it can be dealt with as quickly as possible,” he said.
On Friday evening, the cleaning process and impact data collection were still carried out by officers at a number of affected locations.***
