2 elderly people killed in fire
A tragic incident struck an elderly couple in Hamlet I, Rugemuk village, Pantailabu district, Deli Serdang regency, on Tuesday morning (March 10, 2026).
Arifin (80) and his wife, Ani (60), were found charred after their house was destroyed by fire.
Very large fire, victims do not survive
The intense fire caused panic among local residents. Due to the intense flames, they were unable to rescue the two victims.
Residents tried to extinguish the fire manually, but the fire continued to spread and destroyed the entire building, including the residents and their belongings.
Indonesian Armed Forces Assist in Extinguishing the Fire
Imran Babinsa (village chief) of Rugemuk village and Indonesian Army personnel from the Koramil Military District (Beringin) under the command of 0204/DS (Kodim) received a report from residents and immediately went to the scene to assess the situation.
“Yes, it happened this morning. Two residents, the owners of the house, were found dead. The fire has since been extinguished. The victims were buried this afternoon,” Imran said.
Cause of the Fire Still Under Investigation
Two fire trucks arrived at the scene and immediately extinguished the burning house and evacuated the victims.
The cause of the fire is unknown, and the Pantai Labu police are still investigating.***
