Village Chief Brandishes Gun Like a Cowboy amid Riots

South Tapanuli police have arrested a man whose video went viral on social media. He is suspected of being the village chief of North Padang Lawas (Paluta).

In the video, the man is suspected of displaying a gun during the riots in Pulo Liman village, Dolok Sigompulon district, which took place on Sunday, January 25.

Police Seize Evidence in the Form of a Gun

In a press release, South Tapanuli Police Chief AKBP Yon Edi confirmed that they confiscated the gun allegedly displayed by the village chief, identified as AD (40), from a resident.

“The incident is believed to be related to a land dispute and is currently being thoroughly investigated by the Tapsel Police Department.

We are currently reviewing the video, which is circulating widely on social media, as we fear it will create a negative impression and lead to public unrest,” he added.

Nevertheless, police have taken security measures by seizing evidence directly related to the incident, including a Glock air pistol and a Marauder air rifle.

The riots broke out due to a land dispute between residents.

The chronology of the earlier incident, which was related to the land dispute between residents, is currently being investigated by the police.

The Tapsel Police Department urges the public to remain calm and not be provoked by unconfirmed information.***
