Toyota Kijang Capsule crashes into Toba River in Asahan
A Toyota Kijang Capsule LX with license plate 1423 LK crashed into the Toba River in Asahan, Porsea district, Toba Regency, on Monday (March 23, 2026) around 3:00 a.m. (Western Indonesian time).
A local resident, Galumbang Sibarani, said that the car crashed into the river because it looked like there were two bridges. In reality, there was only one.
According to a witness, the river bridge has already claimed many victims.
“Moreover, residents are unaware of the condition of the bridge and drive at night. So it is not very clear. There are two bridges in this area. One is the old bridge and the other is the new bridge,” he said.
The risk of accidents is even greater because access to the old bridge is no longer available.
To prevent further accidents, residents hope that the provincial government will immediately install permanent signs and fences so that no one can move them.***
