The Ministry of Labor (Kemnaker) is collaborating with the business community to expand social security for the self-employed. Thanks to a partnership with PT Toyota Tsusho Lippo Residences, 100 new self-employed individuals in the Bekasi district, West Java, have received a benefit from BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (the social security agency).
The benefit was symbolically presented to five representatives of the beneficiaries during an event in Jakarta. All benefits from BPJS Ketenagakerjaan are funded through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program of PT Toyota Tsusho Lippo Residences, which includes participation in accident insurance (JKK) and death insurance (JKM), among other things.

The Director General of Employment Services and Employment Expansion (Binapenta and PKK) at the Ministry of Labor, Sugeng Heri Suseno, stated that the cooperation between the government and the business sector is a strategic step to increase access to social security, particularly for workers in the informal sector who still face limitations in obtaining labor protection.
According to Sugeng, the contribution of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan complements the Independent Workers Program for Beginners (TKMP) 2026, which is organized by the Ministry of Labor.
Through this program, the government not only provides facilities for companies but also ensures that beneficiaries receive social protection as part of efforts to support self-employed individuals.
“We recognize that setting up a productive self-employed business is not sufficient with capital support alone. Entrepreneurs also need protection against work-related risks so that their businesses can continue to grow,” he said.

Furthermore, Sugeng stated that the expansion of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan membership is part of the government strategy to improve the protection of workers in the informal sector while simultaneously creating opportunities for transition to the formal sector.
“By registering TKM actors for Workers’ Accident Insurance (JKK) and Death Insurance (JKM), they are not only protected against occupational risks but are also officially registered in the national social security system for employment,” Sugeng concluded. ***rel
