The Jembatan Merah–Muarasoma and Lubukpakam–Tanah Abang–Galang roads will be repaired this year

The provincial government of North Sumatra (Pemprov) has confirmed that repairs to the Jembatan Merah–Muarasoma and Lubukpakam–Tanah Abang sections of the road have been included in the 2026 budget. Both sections have sustained severe damage in several places, necessitating immediate repairs.

The Jembatan Merah–Muarasoma section of the road in the Mandailing Natal district has collapsed due to increased rainfall in North Sumatra in recent months. The road has been eroded by river currents and has been prone to landslides since last year’s floods and landslides.

Logistics Route Along the West Coast of North Sumatra

This section is one of the most important logistics routes on the west coast of North Sumatra. Approximately 150,000 residents depend on this road for their daily activities.

“Sheet piles, dikes, and gabions are being constructed for the Jembatan Merah-Muarasoma section. This is one of the measures to limit the damage after the floods and landslides that occurred a few months ago,” said Chandra Dalimunthe, acting head of the North Sumatra Public Works and Housing Agency, in a telephone conversation on Monday, March 2, 2026.

For the Lubukpakam-Tanah Abang section, the North Sumatra provincial government will improve the road structure along a 3-kilometer stretch. The Tanah Abang-Galang section, along the border with the Serdang Bedagai district, will be improved over a length of 2.5 kilometers.

Infrastructure a serious concern for Governor Bobby Nasution

“We have also included this in this year’s budget and will implement it this year, so that people can travel more comfortably on this road,” said Chandra.

Infrastructure has been a serious concern for Governor Bobby Nasution since taking office in the province of North Sumatra. Infrastructure improvements are also included in the Fastest Best Results Program (PHTC), better known as INSTANSI (Integrated Strategic Infrastructure).

This program aims to improve mobility, streamline the transport of goods, and enhance the quality of life for the residents of North Sumatra. ***rel
