The Association of Legal Journalists (IWAKUM): A journalistic institution that guarantees the freedom of journalists against criminalization


The Association of Legal Journalists (IWAKUM) organized a new member development meeting, including a retreat for potential new members and IWAKUM board members, at the Violin Villas in Sentul, Bogor on Saturday, February 7, 2026.

Five new IWAKUM members were inaugurated that day, including the CEO of ADHYAKSAdigital, Felix Sidabutar. The arrival of the CEO of ADHYAKSAdigital is expected to further strengthen IWAKUM’s role in publications and its synergy with the Indonesian Public Prosecution Service, particularly in reporting on the Public Prosecution Service’s services and law enforcement.

IWAKUM Chairman Irfan Kamil and Secretary-General Ponco Sulaksono welcomed the CEO of ADHYAKSAdigital to the IWAKUM community. IWAKUM is an organization focused on legal reporting and covers state institutions, the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Court, the Anti-Corruption Commission, the Indonesian National Police, and the Public Prosecution Service.

Also present were the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs, the Coordinating Ministry for Law and Human Rights, the National Commission for Human Rights, the Agency for Witness and Victim Protection (LPSK), the Indonesian National Police Commission, the Public Prosecution Service, Committee III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), civil society organizations, and various social institutions.


Building solidarity among journalists


“Welcome to IWAKUM, CEO of ADHYAKSAdigital, Felix Sidabutar. Let’s grow this organization and build solidarity among journalists so that our journalistic work is free from intimidation and criminalization,” said Irfan Kamil.

For the cadre development day, IWAKUM invited several prominent figures as speakers to share insights and knowledge, particularly on the responsibilities of journalists in the field during their reporting.


Insight into national legislation – Criminal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure


Among the speakers who shared their experiences and insights was the Chief of the Indonesian Public Prosecution Service, Prof. Pujiyono Suwadi, S.H., M.H., Professor at the UNS Faculty of Law. This speaker addressed legal ethics.

Next, Dr. Albert Aries, S.H., M.H., an academic from Trisakti University, spoke. This popular speaker in the media world addressed the topic of Understanding National Legislation – the Criminal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Finally, Andi Saputra, S.H., M.H., founder of the organization and former president of IWAKUM, shared his experiences on IWAKUM’s founding history.

Finally, Abdul Manan, member of the Press Council and senior journalist at Tempo, addressed the topic of press regulations and ethics. ***adh
