Telkomsel’s 5G Network is Now Supported by AI Technology
Celebrating 30 years of Telkomsel’s innovation journey to Advance Indonesia, Telkomsel continues the massive expansion of its 5G network (Hyper 5G) with a total of 112 5G base transceiver stations (BTS) in Batam City.
Customers can now enjoy ultra-fast and stable 5G connectivity in a contiguous manner without interruption, starting from the Harbour Bay area, Nagoya, and surrounding areas; Batam Center and Engkuputri; to the Nongsa area and Hang Nadim International Airport.
This ongoing expansion, which began in 2021, confirms Telkomsel’s position as the leading and widest 5G operator with the support of AI technology, as well as a catalyst for economic acceleration and digital transformation.
Telkomsel Network Director, Indra Mardiatna, stated that since turning on Indonesia’s first cellular BTS in Batam 30 years ago, we have continued to make this city a barometer of Telkomsel’s network technology readiness.
“Today, with the massive expansion of the 5G network that has been connected contiguously without interruption in this region, we strive to ensure that the benefits of Telkomsel’s 5G network can be enjoyed by everyone, every home, and business activities, so that it can strategically accelerate economic growth and digital transformation. We will continue to expand 5G to Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Palembang, to reach other major cities/regencies in Sumatra,” he said.
3,000 5G BTS
5G device penetration has reached up to 23% of the total mobile devices in the Batam 5G location, with an average internet consumption rate of 24 GB per user per month.
Based on internal network drive tests, Hyper 5G download speeds in certain locations were recorded at more than 610 Mbps – up to 4x faster than 4G, upload speeds of more than 100 Mbps, and latency as low as 10 ms.
Telkomsel now operates a total of more than 3,000 5G BTS in 56 cities/regencies throughout Indonesia. Continuing the massive expansion in Denpasar-Badung, Jabodetabek, Surabaya, Makassar, and Batam, Telkomsel’s Hyper 5G will be present and continue to be expanded gradually and measurably, in line with the readiness of the 5G ecosystem in a number of key locations.
AI for Superior 5G Connectivity, Services, and Solutions
Telkomsel integrates artificial intelligence (AI) end-to-end to improve the efficiency and quality of Hyper 5G services, including automatic response to disruptions and network management through the Autonomous Networks framework.
“With an AI-based approach, Telkomsel presents optimal service quality for customers in various situations, while enabling the best customer experience anytime and anywhere, including in crowded areas and strategic Hyper 5G locations,” added Indra.
Hyper 5G’s reliability with low latency also supports AI-based customer service, such as Telkomsel’s AI-Based Customer Care Virtual Assistance, namely Virtual Assistant Veronika (B2C) and Virtual Account Manager Ted (B2B).
Integrated with the AI Service Operations Center, both are able to respond to customer needs quickly and effectively, presenting an innovative and superior service experience in the 5G digital era.
Hyper 5G Offers
Telkomsel’s VP Consumer Business Area Sumatra, Mulya Budiman, added that in line with customer growth and adoption of 5G devices, Telkomsel also presents various attractive packages and offers for SIMPATI, Halo+, to Device Bundling, all of which include 5G internet quota to maximize the new era of Hyper 5G connectivity experience which is faster and more economical in Batam.

Hyper 5G Telkomsel
Hyper 5G Telkomsel also enables the presence of leading connectivity solutions for the manufacturing industry, one of which is through collaboration with PT Pegaunihan Technology Indonesia (part of the Pegatron Group) in the implementation of the 5G Private Network Standalone (SA) network at Smart Factory Batam.
Up to 1,200 Telkomsel IoT SIM cards are connected to 5G, connecting thousands of sensors and machines in real-time, enabling performance monitoring, production process control, and predictive maintenance with ultra-low latency.
Telkomsel’s 5G Public Network also supports employee mobility and digital collaboration across the facility area. ***
