Tiger crosses residents’ rice fields, causing nuisance
The head of the Sosopan sub-district, H. Maralohot Siregar, confirmed upon inquiry that he had received information that a resident of Aekbargot had seen a tiger near the residential area and that the case is being investigated. According to residents, the tiger was seen crossing the road on Friday (March 27) around 11:00 AM WIB, before Friday prayers. The following day, residents also saw suspected tiger tracks near a rice field.
The head of the North Sumatra Nature Conservation Department (BKSDA) Region VI, Siti Wahyuni, told Waspada that they would visit the location immediately after consultation.
BKSDA team inspects location
“The BKSDA team will visit the location immediately to inspect the situation and take further action, to prevent unrest and not hinder residents in working their fields,” she said.
According to residents working in the fields, displaying the tiger’s stripes is a warning, possibly because some local residents made a mistake.
“So far, no one has fallen prey to the tiger, such as livestock, but displaying stripes and tracks is simply a reminder to be more careful,” she said.
