PT CNI deposits IDR 401 billion with the Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding a nickel mining case in Southeast Sulawesi
PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama (CNI), a nickel mining company in Southeast Sulawesi, has deposited IDR 401,653,737,469.69 (over four hundred and one billion rupiah) with investigators from the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Special Crimes.
The deposit is related to an ongoing investigation by the Special Crimes Team (JAM Pidsus) into alleged corruption regarding the management of the company’s nickel mining operations in Southeast Sulawesi between 2017 and 2020.
The handling of this case is based on an investigation order issued by the Director of Investigation at the Special Crimes Division (Jampidsus)—number 22/F.2/Fd.2/04/2025 dated April 10, 2025—which was most recently updated under number Prin-104/F.2/Fd.2/11/2025 dated November 7, 2025.
“This series of investigations is being conducted to reconstruct the criminal acts involved in the corruption case concerning nickel management from 2017 to 2020,” stated Saiful Bahri Siregar, Director of Investigation at the Public Prosecutor’s Office (Jampidsus), during a press conference at the Jakarta office on Monday, August 31, 2026.
PT CNI reportedly holds a mining business license (IUP) for production activities in Southeast Sulawesi. However, the company does not yet possess a work plan and budget (RKAB), despite having obtained an export permit. According to Saiful, PT CNI subsequently—together with government officials—manipulated the nickel content test results to bring the level below 1.7 percent, thereby meeting export requirements. However, according to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the actual nickel content exceeded 1.7 percent.
“PT CNI illegally exported nickel using invalid documents, resulting in financial losses for the state,” he explained.

Calculations by the BPKP place the financial loss to the state in this case at 401 billion Indonesian rupiah—specifically, 401,653,737,469.69 rupiah. Saiful stated that law enforcement efforts in corruption cases aim not only for criminal prosecution but also for the recovery of state funds and the improvement of governance.
On this basis, PT CNI handed over the sum of 401,653,737,469.69 Indonesian rupiah to the investigators on Friday afternoon (August 28, 2026). “We have seized the funds and deposited them into the ‘Other Government’ (RPL) account at Bank Mandiri—account number 139—for the benefit of the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes,” he said.
Saiful emphasized that investigators are continuing their inquiry and the reconstruction of the offenses involved in the case, including the gathering of evidence.
“Investigators are currently reconstructing the crimes using the full body of evidence to determine who can be held criminally liable,” Saiful stated. “We will soon determine who can be held criminally liable for this incident,” explained Syaiful Bahri. ***adh
PT. CNI Setorkan Rp.401 M Ke Kejagung Terkait Perkara Tambang Nikel di Sultra
PT.
***adh
