North Sumatra Provincial Government Officials Warned Against Extortion

Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution of North Sumatra inaugurated 308 North Sumatra Provincial Government Officials and administered the Oath of Office.

On this occasion, Bobby reminded the newly inaugurated officials not to perform any “extra duties” that could harm the organization, their families, or themselves. “No additional activities such as extortion (pungli) or fundraising for projects must take place. Let us work together to ensure order and discipline and avoid actions that are harmful to ourselves,” said Bobby Nasution during the inauguration, swearing-in, and installation of high-ranking officials, administrators, and supervisors in the Raja Inal Siregar Hall of the Governor of North Sumatra’s office on Jalan Diponegoro on Monday, March 9, 2026.

Bobby Nasution stated that with such a large number of officials, the organizations within the provincial government of North Sumatra will hopefully function better, form a closer partnership, and strengthen the government’s performance.

Officials asked to implement Governor Bobby Nasution’s guidelines

He emphasized that various messages regarding the duties and responsibilities of their positions had already been conveyed during previous inaugurations. Therefore, the officials are asked to implement the given guidelines. Bobby also indicated that the governor and deputy governor are now starting their second year in office. Therefore, discussions within the regional administrative bodies (OPDs) are no longer limited to programs, but focus on how the vision and mission of the regional government can be effectively implemented.

He therefore reminded all regional administrative bodies (OPDs) to maintain unity within their respective working environments. However, this unity must not be used to cover up mistakes or violations.

“Unity within every OPD must truly be preserved. Do not badmouth one another, but that does not mean you have to protect each other from crime,” he emphasized.

For civil servants who do not meet their goals: submit your resignation

Furthermore, Bobby asked all OPDs to create a healthy, creative working environment and to avoid complaints. According to him, regional governments have development goals that must be achieved within a certain timeframe.

“We have development goals and targets; civil servants who do not feel at home or feel uncomfortable can submit their resignation,” said Bobby. Bobby focused specifically on the transformation of the Agency for Development Planning, Research and Development (Bappelitbang) into the Agency for Regional Development Planning, Research and Innovation (Bapperida). He hopes that this institution can guide the OPDs (Outstanding Provincial Dependences) in formulating ideas, innovations, and strategic steps to ensure the success of development in North Sumatra.

Also present were the Vice Governor of North Sumatra, Surya, the Acting Regional Secretary of the Province of North Sumatra, Sulaiman Harahap, and the heads of regional government agencies within the Provincial Government of North Sumatra.
