Ministry of Labour collaborates with ILO to address changes in the labour market
The Ministry of Labour (Kemnaker) has confirmed its intention to continue cooperation with the International Labour Organization (ILO) to respond to changes in the labour market while simultaneously strengthening worker protection.
This intention was emphasized by Indah Anggoro Putri, Director General of Industrial Relations and Social Security (PHI and Jamsos) of the Ministry of Labour, during the reading of the Country Declaration in the open session with the ILO at the meeting of senior labour officials (SLOM) in Bangkok, Thailand, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Indah stated that the labour market is evolving rapidly as a result of digital technology, demographic changes, and global economic dynamics. These circumstances have a direct impact on the labour market and require flexible employment policies, as well as cooperation between institutions and countries.
“On behalf of the Indonesian government, I would like to express my appreciation for the continued support from the ILO, particularly through various initiatives to strengthen the national employment development agenda,” said Indah.
Indah explained that the relationship between Indonesia and the ILO is reflected in various human capital development programs, including those for civil servants in the labor sector.
In the 2022–2026 period, these programs include training in Public Employment Services (PES) and the ‘Start and Improve Your Business’ (SIYB) program, as well as support for the strategic employment agenda at the regional ASEAN level.

“Indonesia welcomes the expansion of cooperation through knowledge exchange and intensive policy dialogue to address the various challenges and opportunities in the future of work,” she said.
One of the priorities emphasized by Indonesia is optimizing the implementation of ILO Convention No. 188 on Work in the Fisheries, which Indonesia has ratified. According to Indah, strengthening protection in the fisheries sector must cover good governance, occupational safety and health (OSH) standards, labor inspection, compliance with fundamental rights, and social security for fishing vessel crews.
At the regional level, Indonesia also emphasized the importance of flexible and responsive cooperation between ASEAN and the ILO, tailored to the needs of member states. The proposed program is expected to be results-oriented and address the diverse employment needs of each country.
“Indonesia hopes to continue strengthening close ties with the ILO and all ASEAN member states to create a competitive, resilient, flexible, and inclusive labor market ready to face future opportunities and challenges,” said Indah. ***rel
