Medan City Government Provides 2,149 Job Vacancies

Medan City Government under the leadership of Mayor Rico Waas provides thousands of jobs for the people of Medan City through a Job Fair organized by the Manpower Office in collaboration with Universitas Prima Indonesia, June 18, 2025.

The community was very enthusiastic about attending the Job Fair. Only an hour after it opened, the hall was already packed with job seekers.

56 Companies Provide 2,149 Job Vacancies

“There are 56 companies providing 2,149 job vacancies. Just an hour after it was opened, more than a thousand job seekers have already attended,” said Medan Mayor Rico Waas.

The data obtained shows that the 2,149 vacancies with 203 positions consist of 928 vacancies for men and 1,221 for women.

Job Seekers Who Are High School and Vocational High School Graduates

Rico Waas assessed that the enthusiasm of job seekers in utilizing this job fair event shows that there are still many people who need jobs. These job seekers, he continued, are both high school and vocational high school graduates and the vacancies provided by the companies are also varied.

“Interestingly, there are companies that accept people with disabilities. We appreciate companies that do this. Hopefully those who attend here can be accepted immediately,” said Mayor Rico Waas.

Job Fair Efforts to Open Access to Job Vacancies

The number one person in the Medan City Government advised job seekers to stay enthusiastic. They, he continued, must prove themselves worthy of work, have talent, good cooperation and communication skills, commitment and integrity.

Accompanied by the Head of Medan Manpower Office, Ilyan Chandra Simbolon, the Mayor said that this job fair is one of the efforts to open access to job vacancies for job seekers in the formal sector. In addition, he continued, to open up employment opportunities, investment must also be increased.

“We must ensure that investing in Medan City is safe, comfortable, and the permit process is fast and easy. We must prove this too,” he said.

From the job seeker’s side, Rico Waas also reminded about skills and expertise. Therefore, the Medan City Government in collaboration with the Center for Vocational Training and Productivity held various trainings to improve the skills of job seekers. These skills will attract the attention of companies providing job vacancies.

Job Applicants with Disabilities

During the visit, Rico Waas had the opportunity to chat with one of the job applicants with disabilities, Ummu Aina Lubis. This 24-year-old woman has been physically disabled since birth.

She found out about this job fair from the Medan Manpower Office’s social media. With full confidence, she came with a letter of application to be submitted to Alfamidi which was opening vacancies for people with disabilities. “I applied as a cashier,” she said.

Ummu admitted that she had worked in a private company. She was accepted as an operator through a service bureau. Now her contract period has ended, so she has to look for another job. “Hopefully I can be accepted, hopefully there will be many opportunities for people with disabilities,” she said.

In this job fair, there are two companies that provide job vacancies for people with disabilities. Both are Alfamidi and Alfamart, each of which provides five vacancies for people with disabilities for jobs in stores and warehouses.

Rizki Kartika, Alfamidi’s recruitment staff, said that companies are required to accept people with disabilities of one percent of their total employees.

“That number has been met before, but over time, the number of employees has increased, automatically the vacancies for people with disabilities have also increased,” he concluded. ***
