Mayor of Medan Swears in Hundreds of Level III and IV Civil Servants
Mayor Rico Waas of Medan sworn in 213 Level III and IV civil servants at Medan City Hall on Monday (February 23, 2026).
Among the sworn-in civil servants were district heads, department heads, and secretaries of regional government agencies (OPD) within the municipality of Medan (Pemko).
During the swearing-in ceremony, Rico Waas indicated that he would not be charging the new civil servants any compensation. The NasDem party politician therefore encouraged the new civil servants to perform optimally.
Mayor urges newly installed officials to fully commit to the residents of Medan
“I am personally installing you without asking for a cent in return. I don’t ask for a cent from you. But I do ask you to work hard and serve the residents of Medan,” Rico said during the installation ceremony at Medan City Hall on Monday, February 23, 2026.
He stated that he, along with Medan’s Deputy Mayor, Zakiyuddin Harahap, expects the district administrators and other officials to develop their regions based on the principle of good service during his second year as mayor.
Rico Waas strives for a cleaner and more modern city
“We ask you all to be enthusiastic about the development of Medan. Carry out your assignments to improve your regions. Start with cleanliness, service, and managing your regions as well as possible,” he said.
He also reminded all newly installed officials to understand their role as public servants.
“We are civil servants, we listen to the people and we protect the people. I ask the Medan city government to improve itself so that Medan can become a more modern and better city,” he said.***
