Man dies, split in two after collision with train

An adult male named Dimas Syahputra alias Percil (22), residing in Hamlet I, Mekar Sari Village, Pulau Rakyat District, Asahan, died at the scene after being struck by the Sri Bilah Utama U16 train, which was traveling from Medan to Rantau Perapat.

This fatal accident occurred on the railway at kilometer marker 32+7/8 Petak, Teluk Dalam Road, Pulau Raja District, Hamlet I, Mekar Sari, Pulau Rakyat District, Asahan, on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at approximately 02:30 WIB.

According to a witness, the victim fell asleep on the train tracks.

According to Marno (49), a local resident who heard and saw the incident happen, the village was still full of people who had celebrated Eid al-Fitr a few days earlier. The residents also received news that the Sri Bilah Utama train, on its way to Rantau Perapat, had hit a person on the tracks. After many residents had gathered, it turned out that the man who had been run over by the Sri Bilah Utama U-16 train was named “Dimas Syahputra, also known as Percil,” according to Marno.

Marno also said that rumors were circulating that the victim had first been angry with his parents because they had not let him borrow his sister’s boyfriend’s motorbike. He then left on foot and sat down on the train tracks in front of his house. There he fell asleep. While he was sleeping, the Sri Bilah Utama U-16 train passed by and the victim, who was lying on the tracks, was immediately run over. His body was torn in two and dragged several meters.

Victim evacuated and returned to family

Meanwhile, Chief Inspector J. Situmorang of the Asahan Traffic Police confirmed the incident and added that the local police team was investigating the case. The traffic police were also on the scene.

According to local residents, the victim, Dimas Syahputra, also known as Percil, was sleeping on the edge of the tracks early that morning. At that moment, the Sri Bilah Utama U-16 train passed by, en route to Rantau Perapat, and caused the accident in which he lost his life.

The victim was evacuated and taken to the local health center for medical treatment, and subsequently to the family for the funeral, he concluded.
