Karo Flower and Fruit Festival Set to Become an International Event
The North Sumatra provincial government is committed to continuing its support and guidance for the Karo Flower and Fruit Festival, aiming to develop it into an event of international stature.
The festival, which has grown into one of North Sumatra’s key tourism attractions, holds significant potential to enhance the Karo region’s image and boost the local economy.

This commitment was voiced by the Deputy Governor of North Sumatra, Surya, during the opening of the 2026 Karo Flower and Fruit Festival at Mejuah-juah Park in Berastagi, Karo Regency.
Also in attendance were Indonesia’s Minister of Cooperatives, Ferry Juliantono; the Regent of Karo, Antonius Ginting; consuls-general from friendly nations; and thousands of enthusiastic residents and tourists who filled the venue.
In his address, Deputy Governor Surya emphasized that the Karo Flower and Fruit Festival—held since the 1980s—is more than just an annual event. It represents the community’s expression of gratitude for the fertile soil, abundant agricultural produce, and rich culture of the Karo region.
“We can be proud that the Karo Flower and Fruit Festival has become part of the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism’s Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) program. This festival plays a strategic role in strengthening North Sumatra’s image as a high-quality, competitive, and sustainable tourism destination,” stated Deputy Governor Surya.

With the theme “The Eternal Paradise of Karo,” this year’s festival is expected to further strengthen Karo identity—not only through the beauty of its flower fields and abundant horticultural produce but also through the character of a community that upholds the spirit of mutual cooperation and the preservation of traditions.
The Deputy Governor emphasized that the North Sumatra provincial government remains committed to enhancing the festival’s quality, boosting promotion, and expanding collaboration among stakeholders.
“The North Sumatra provincial government remains dedicated to organizing high-quality events that promote tourism, stimulate the local economy, and strengthen the region’s cultural identity,” he added.
The central government also supported the festival at an international level. Indonesian Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono expressed his admiration for the enthusiasm of the Karo people and affirmed his ministry’s readiness to support the development of the region’s potential.

“The Karo Flower and Fruit Festival is one of the top 125 events in Indonesia. We will fully support the event next year to expand it into an international-scale occasion,” stated Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono, who was also bestowed the Karo surname “Ginting” during the event.
Karo Regent Antonius Ginting also expressed his appreciation to both the North Sumatra provincial government and the central government. He noted that collaboration among the various parties is crucial for increasing international recognition of the Karo Regency.
“It is crucial for Karo Regency to continue growing on the international stage through cooperation in tourism promotion, investment in modern agriculture, cultural exchange, and the development of the creative economy,” said Antonius.
The 2026 Karo Flower and Fruit Festival offers a wide range of activities for both local and international tourists.

These include a parade of vehicles decorated with signature Karo flowers and fruits, an exhibition showcasing high-quality products and SMEs, business matchmaking sessions, art and cultural performances, dance competitions, and a tradition of offering free fruit and fruit-based dishes to all visitors.
