Governor Bobby Nasution’s free school program eases the burden on parents of students on Nias
The free secondary school program (SMA/SMK), launched by the Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, has received a positive response from students. The Nias Islands are the first region to benefit from the program.
Asis Berkat Zalukhu, a student at SMKN 1 Lotu in North Nias, expressed his gratitude for the policy.
He said that the free school program is very beneficial to the community, particularly for families with limited financial resources.

“We are very grateful and happy with this decision. Why, sir? We also live in a remote area where many parents are struggling financially,” said Silas after Governor Bobby Nasution’s visit to SMKN 1 Lotu in North Nias.
Silas considered the free school program an extraordinary policy that students and parents have been waiting for for a long time. Septo Rismanto, another student at SMKN 1 Lotu, expressed similar sentiments.
He expressed his pride in the program established by Governor Bobby Nasution, which has eased the burden on parents and motivated students to study harder.
“Thanks to this program, the burden on parents has been reduced, and we have become more enthusiastic about learning,” said Septo.

Another student, Wilman Elviansyah Nasution, also expressed his appreciation for the free education program. He hopes that the provincial government of North Sumatra will continue to improve the facilities at his school to further support the educational process and develop students’ competencies.
During the visit, Governor Bobby Nasution also inspected the construction of two new classrooms at SMKN 1 Lotu, for which a budget of 317 million rupiah was used. This construction is part of the efforts by the provincial government of North Sumatra to improve the quality of educational facilities and infrastructure.
Bobby Nasution stated that the benefits of the free education program are not only experienced by parents, but that schools also gain the flexibility to meet various educational needs.
“Now, school fees for secondary schools and vocational schools on Nias Island are free. As a result, school principals have a more flexible budget, for example for furniture, extra practice rooms, and equipment. They can also operate more flexibly,” said Bobby. ***rel
