Electric buses in Medan are becoming increasingly popular
The transformation of public transport in Medan, North Sumatra, is showing a positive trend. This is evident from the growing public interest in electric buses as a mode of mass transit.
Acting Director of the Medan City Public Transport Company (Kadishub), Suriono, revealed that electric buses had become the public’s first choice by 2025, with a total of 2,739,601 passengers.
“This fantastic figure proves that Medan residents are increasingly opting for mass transit that offers greater safety, comfort, and efficiency,” said Suriono.
2025: More than 200,000 passengers on electric buses
By 2025, the number of passengers on electric buses in Medan will average more than 200,000 per month. The highest number was recorded in October, with 279,732 passengers.
Suriono stated that this achievement is clear evidence that the integration of public transport in Medan is on the right track. He hopes this achievement will motivate him to further improve the quality of service.
“This is not just a number, but a testament to public trust. Moreover, the presence of electric buses is not only about reducing traffic jams, but also about our efforts to reduce CO2 emissions in Medan,” Suriono said.
60 electric buses serving 227 bus stops
